Dr. Ryan Punambolam, MD, MSc, FRCPC, is a Canadian-trained neurologist/neurophysiologist and the new neurologist at Doctors Hospital Cayman. He completed his undergraduate medical degree at Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) and underwent fellowship training at the University of British Columbia. He then completed post-graduate training at UCLA, BIDMC/Harvard Medical School Neuromodulation Unit. Additionally, he completed the Chief Quality Officer Training Program through the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (Boston, MA), and most recently obtained a graduate degree in Dementia.
Dr. Ryan Punambolam is an established clinician, leader, and teacher. As a clinician, he has been focused on comprehensive and patient-centered care with 15 years of experience as a Consultant Neurologist working in various centres across Canada. As a leader, he is dedicated to system design and quality improvement, holding various leadership positions including as Medical Director for a large regional comprehensive stroke centre where, under his leadership, he achieved an astonishing 375% improvement in acute stroke treatment rates.
He is actively engaged in teaching medical trainees at various levels, garnering numerous teaching awards. He has held positions of Adjunct Professorship in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at Western University, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, at the University of Windsor.
