Cayman’s national healthcare conference attracts international
expertise

Quickly developing into one of the Caribbean’s leading healthcare
conferences, Cayman’s annual 20/20 Healthcare Conference takes place
from 18 to 20 October at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Now in its
third year, this annual event is this year attracting some of the
biggest names globally in the management of healthcare, and they will
be sharing their expertise with conference delegates and sponsoring
this important event.
Underscoring the truly global nature of this year’s conference, sponsors,
presenters and delegates from the United States (Florida, California,
Virginia, Ohio, New York and Missouri), Canada and delegates from
Caribbean countries such as Bahamas and US Virgin Islands will join
local healthcare experts and conference attendees for what is scheduled
to be an unprecedented in-depth analysis of this year’s conference
theme: ‘Patient-Centred Care: Achieving Quality Outcomes’.
Among the extensive list of top healthcare professionals scheduled
to present is Dr Mercedes Dullum, an award-winning cardiothoracic
surgeon, who is Medical Director, International Services for Tenet
Healthcare. Dr Dullum has been named as one of the top cardiac surgeons
in Washington D.C., where she served as one of the managing directors
of a multi-physician, multi-million dollar practice. Dr. Dullum oversees
the clinical operations of Tenet’s international programme, developing
clinical operation systems and quality standards. She will be assessing
techniques that work in the field, while still increasing the patient
experience.
Dr James Merlino is the Chief Experience Officer of the Cleveland
Clinic health system, and is a practicing staff colorectal surgeon
in the Digestive Disease Institute. He is also the founder and current
president of the Association for Patient Experience and a recognised
world leader in this emerging field. It is his responsibility to lead
initiatives that improve the patient experience across the Cleveland
Clinic Health System. His presentation will discuss, among a broad
list of topics, why a patient’s first philosophy should be at the
centre of every healthcare organisation’s strategy.
Award-winning broadcast journalist, Barbara Ficarra, who is a leading
voice in healthcare social media, is another leading professional
in her field, will be analysing the overall topic of the rise of digital
technology for better patient engagement. Ms Ficarra is a freelance
writer, medical blogger, speaker, health educator and a featured writer
for The Huffington Post, and is on the front lines of health care
as a registered nurse. She is an administrative supervisor for at
a large university medical centre and covers multiple medical and
surgical units, critical care, oncology, cardiology, psychiatric unit,
women’s and children’s services, and emergency trauma department.
Dr Richard Buck, an independent organizational and health care strategist
based out of St. Louis, Missouri was the Naval Medical Officer and
CEO at the Naval Hospital. He has received international recognition
for his leadership in patient centred care. He brings a magnitude
of experience to this conference and will be speaking about how healthcare
providers can incorporate patient centred care into busy schedules.
Dr Lawrence Friedman is Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the
University of California, San Diego. His main responsibility includes
medical directorship of a large faculty practice and oversight of
ambulatory quality and safety, managed care and ambulatory clinical
practices. Dr Friedman will also be presenting at the conference,
looking specifically at defining quality outcomes from the patient,
provider and payer perspective, as well as looking at some of the
innovations that are driving quality improvements and quality measurement
of healthcare services.
Another senior figure in the field of healthcare, Steven Thompson,
CEO at Johns Hopkins Medicine International and Senior Vice president
of Johns Hopkins Medicine, will be analysing the issue of improving
the health status of individuals and communities via a number of different
strategies. Mr Thompson has over 25 years’ experience in various positions
within academic medicine and academic health centres.
Cynthia Hastings-James, Co-founder of Cookson James Loyalty Inc and
BestLifeRewarded.com, is another expert in her field, enjoying over
15 years of innovation in health promotion, medical education and
marketing, with a particular focus on digital solutions. Ms Hasting-James
looks forward to sharing her knowledge on the use of incentives with
patient-centred approaches to improve health and wellness with the
20/20 Healthcare Conference audience.
